Hi all,

I am an apprentice electrician, been a mate for about 2 years but had to go cards in and complete an apprenticeship. this was the only way to get my course paid for and my wages coming in each week to pay the bills. i have always taken pictures and other evidence to put in my portfolio, however i believe i have to do write ups.

Can someone help me and maybe show me examples. or does anyone have any of the requirements so i can start mine sort of early so when the date comes to hand mine in its near done. its frustrating being quite advanced in the electrical work and having to do the basics again in collage. would be a much help to get a headstarton this portfolio.

Thanks.

The assessor(s) are looking for a snap-shot of the given task. So don't be excessive in your answers. I know there is a sample portfolio on here somewhere no doubt it will appear. I think it was @Leesparkykent that uploaded it. Perfect example on how to do a portfolio.
There is no doubt it is a royal pita however you just got to steadily plough through it.

I finished my portfolio a couple of months back now. I had hardly any pictures and mostly write ups. I just looked at the evidence I had to cover in the front of my folder and then made sure when I did a write up I put it into it some how.

E.g.. evidence for twin and earth cable; 'I wired the downstairs lighting circuit using 1mm twin and earth'.

Did this for most things and went through no problems.
My site visits with my college assessor also covered a fair bit so try get some site visits in.
As long as the write ups are signed underneath by your employer to say he witnessed you do the work they'll say it's all good!
