Hi guys thinking bout signing up for nvq before it is phased out as such I do not work in the industry just do bits and bobs here and there. Really want to do course before it is phased the training centre have told me they will let me do it and phone round few places for try and get me the work to do all units if I am struggling. What do you think people who have done the course is it possible to do with not working in the industry and doing odd bits here and there thanks Craig

hi crags
I am in same boat as you mate i to need to either set up or get employment then i can register before its changed i have contacted c&g to see if i would still be able to do the new qual if i miss the boat with the 2356 i have also contacted a local college to do 2330 lv3 without lv1 and 2 they said i can if a place comes available. its hard trying to find whats required and also finding work

I know what you mean Bruce I want to do the nvq before it is phased out but cannot guarantee I can do all the units with not working full time in the industry. Might sign up for it anyway and just take the chance that in the 2 years I can complete the units. Hope you get on your courses you require mate it's tough out there at the moment I have phoned loads of places just to get some more experience on a Friday when I am of work but as of yet nothing????!!!

yeah mate
I have been trying to get on nvq but been told that really you need to be workig with a commercial/ industrial spark to complete and get them to sign for the assignments
I have also been trying to get on 2330 lv3 as i dont hold lv 1,2,3 and been told i could just do the nvq, but as i havent done any of the 2330 I feel i would be lacking a lot of knowledge to complete the assignments also dont really know whats required for the 2330 lv3 but as long as i was told what to study and any books etc i would need then would put all the effort i could into it
I have contacted a few employers and also been looking at going self employed domestic just to get going to keep my hand in and try to recoup some of the costs for all courses etc good luck mate i think we will need it

I'm thinking in doin the 2356 through a local college by reg before 31/12 the deadline..only that they want ÂŁ1300 or so in fees almost up front, but with all the comments on the diffuculty in getting work to complete the units i'm not to sure on the plan, but question is; the college do tie you up with an assessor that is independent of the college, it's his/her job to make sure that your portfolio is in order and completed, as I understand it they have a big stake in your succeceding, and the only way you can do that is by getting the work to complete your portfolio, that's how these guys (companies) earn their bread, they also will have a lot of contacts given their dealing with the trade all the time, so i'm thinking with them behind you and thier contacts would that simplify getting the work to complete the portfolio; if anyone has got any experiance witgh this or hasd any suceess which i'm sure there are out there; could they shed light on this it would be really helpfull, i'm sure it's something many lads would like to know, thanks a big one in advance:)

Unfortunately the cost of the NVQ is always a sticking point. However when candidates realise that this cost is only 10week of socialising ÂŁ100 per week, it is very small change in the scheme of things.
Coming from the 1960's when I qualified the A,.B & C course, there was no such thing as a NVQ, originally Not Very Qualified was the initial interpretation. At 48 yrs of age I undertook an NVQ in Elecrical Mainteance, drawing on evidence of work completed withing the previous 24months, it took 18 hours to complete. Since then it has led to many offers of employment, unfortunately I do not need the work. There are many private training providers that give good service within the NVQ, but it is up to the candidate.
Send me an email to [email protected], and I will forward details to you.
