i am about to apply for a grading card i have not been graded previously.the jib have asked for proof of my apprenticeship i done back 30 years ago but the council i done my apprenticeship with dont hold records that long:eek:i have worked as a electrician for decades but didnt need the jib card till NOW
the only proof i can get is from an apprentice who was the year above me who now owns and runs an electrical contractors firm he is a strong member of select in scotland and has even apprentices with the sjib.he has written a affidavit stating that i was an apprentice a long side him for the duration.i have parts 1 of 2360 city&guilds of which coincides with the dates of my apprenticeship. city&guilds told me they could not find part 2?????strange:mad::mad: that led me down the city&guilds 2330 road of which i have levels 2 level 3 and the 2382-200.i have all the experience that you would expect 27 years of working in the electrical trade.i have also a signed affadavit from last employer stating that i am experienced/competent electrician,i am unemployed just now so i cant(dont want to really go down the NVQ ROAD).IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE...........that would help me prove my case.

Thanks for anyone that replies:(

I suggest that all of your problems of getting copies of your earned certificates, is basically down to laziness on the parts of your former employers, collage and the City & Guilds.

Unlike these days where everything is computerised, in your time it wasn't, and is now sitting in the archives gathering dust. The present day clerks are too dammed lazy to put themselves out to go physically looking for them... If it's not on the computer they don't exist in there world!!!

I had similar experiences getting hold of my late fathers C&G certs, ...but i got every last one of them by sheer perseverance and not taking NO as a there stock answer. Every collage, and every university etc, and definitly the G&G have records of every award they have ever awarded/issued... And when was the last time a County Council didn't hold extensive records of there employee's??

You may have to pay a very small search fee, but i can assure you, your certificate records are in at least 2 of those institutions archives, and in all likelihood in all 3 of them, ....all it takes is for someone to do their job and go find them....

i have already paid city&guilds for them certs........they even stopped correspondence with me and just ignored everything,email/letter.i am waiting on the final reply from the district council but it dont look promising............FUBAR comes to my lips when the jib/city&guilds are mentioned as they are both dinosaurs

Have you tried the collage affiliated to your apprenticeship training and where you would have sat the exams??
Collages and universities have a legal obligation to keep records of any official or academic awards they have issued, or have been issued are via there facility. They also have an obligation as to verifying any cert/degree/document that bears the official signature of the Dean or Principle of that institution....

As i said, don't take NO for an answer, and you will eventually get a verified copy of your original certs...

That's pure horse crap my friend, all they are saying there is, that they then archive it, and the person you spoke too, isn't prepared to go looking for it. As i stated they have an obligation to verify any academic document that was issued by that institution that bears the Dean's or Principles signature, ...past and present. So they obviously must keep records!!!
