Hi all,
So here the situation, was doing some testing today in advance of board change tomorrow (domestic).
Currentl board has one 'socket' circuit. There are however 2 rings going into the one breaker.
So seperated the two rings and found one just does a small office that was built as extension on back of garage (right next to board).

Test resulst as follows for this ring (2.5mm T&E):
End to end
L-L 0.08
N-N 0.08
E-E 0.19

Now when i cross connect and test L-N & L-E these are results I get at the 5 sockets on the circuit.

L-N 1.11, .67, .07, .07, .06
L-E 1.2, .4, .08, .08, .08

Any ideas what could be going on? IR is all >299MO

Based on end to end tests i was expecting approx 0.04 for L-N and 0.06 for L-E, these two sockets seem to be giving odd readings?

Have had them off and all connections tight.

Any help much appreciated. Sorry for the babbling.

are you testing using a breakout box or at the connection terminals?? Sometimes plug in test equipment can give strange results.

could be poor connections IN sockets, or some might be spurs. pick one of the high reading sockets and test at the cables ( bit of a pain , but could give better result.)

Maybe your leads, I had some crazy readings before I realised that the cores had parted company.

Thanks guys, some good things for me to try tomorrow. Interesting what you say about the leads, i have noticed them becoming a bit unsteady!

Just a quick update guys, changed batteries on tester and bingo! Megger 1553, thanks for advice all.
Glad you sorted it...I always keep a spare set in the van now just in case.... every time you first turn it on to 'V' it will come up with your battery level you have left mines around 10.7v..... keep an eye on that think when it gets around 8v it goes a bit funny:freak:
