how do I get on an offshore oil rig? What certification and qualifications do I need? Is there a list of relevant companies or recruitment agencies? All the job ads seem to indicate that I need at least 2 years offshore experience, how do I obtain the experience?

Hi

If you check the jobs section of the forum, you will see numerous threads on offshore work.

I believe the current industry minimum is Compex, Bosiet & MIST, around £2000 worth of courses there.

It is very much who you know as opposed to what.

I forwarded a job ad for a rig sparky a couple of days ago, its on the board.

Electrical Rig work would best be suited to experienced industrial based electricians, rather than installation based electricians. You'll be expected to get rotational and other machinery, along with many other systems, up and running during faults and breakdowns!! ...All working under pressure in sometimes very hostile conditions, to get production back on line!!
