I'm in with a shout of a big pat contract (invited to tender) I've done some electrics minor works before these past few months for them (less than 20k)...anyhow they seem to like me.

It is not a normal type pat job, more or less full time for one/two men ...like painting the forth rd bridge..
Anyhow in early discussions I mentioned IT equipment, does not need testing electronically each year...I said I would be quite confident in issuing a 36-month ticket...heads looked up, err yes assuming visual inspections were made between times. This got the attention I was wanting....anyhow it seems they have checked what I said with their own in house hse, hence the invitation to tender.

Now in the cold light of day I'm thinking I'm leaving myself open for a scape goat should something go wrong. What to write on ticket, next test due 2013?...providing visulal inspections made. Obviously no room on the ticket for the provisos. I can of course make notes on associated paperwork I give them, but being a natural sceptic, if something went wrong the paperwork would dissapear'

I would have a copy, but hey i would be against the majors.

They also want a data base building of all PA, they have no clue what they have, the guesses range from 50,000 to 100.000. Probably 20% being it stuff. They also want fixed appliances testing, heaters vending machines etc. So they are only asking qualified electrical contractors to quote, rather than pat companies per say.

A simple pass/fail will not be accepted, they want actual read out results logging. No problem but no chance at 79p per item ...the manager laughed, I expect it will be slightly more.

So anyhow, I suppose some will say crazy, why give 3-years? you are doing us out of work. maybe so but its cut throat and to be honest 3 years is justifiable on most it stuff (The way these guys waste money no doubt they will be renewed within 2 years anyhow)

quid a item....! 100k items woop woop!!! full time job... just invoice weekly!!!:)

I wish!, quarterly invoices, best guess at this stage 100 items tested correctly per day @ £1.50 ish. There will be waiting times and hoops to jump through, but for a 3-year term I would

I mean 100 items per man per day, some guys I've worked with could do 200 (i don't want them) some guys could only do 50, i don't want them either. I just want 2 of me -;)

a Client who wants to PAY to get PAT done correctly and thoosands o items ffs hes unique Remember to include 1 week in 4 for your attendance at the Loonyhoose lol

Indeed, you need to factor a small amount of "waiting" time, unless you can prebook when certain equipment will be available to test.

Maybe, you could also print up a log to record pat alongside visual checks??

I don't think the client will pay, the tax payer will. Now if it was his/her own business maybe they would go with label stickers. And to be honest the law is vague, some companies look at pat as a sort of unavoidable insurance, and think so what i've done my bit, he's 79p but he's £1.40 or whatever...so.

Especially so with small to medium size private companies.

I had a frantic call the other week...i need pat doing asap, err next tuesday i said...oh no he said hse are calling monday all my appliances are out of date, some by 12 months!

OK i said, how many appliances you got? oh at least 20 err perhaps 30, ok I can do it sunday, £100...brilliant he said!

2 hours sunday morn is ok for me

hse didn't even check, just interested in his method statments and welfare facilities..lol

HSE Actualy visited someone he must have been a BADBOY or something happened never see them even when reported a guy walkin along ridge using a pressurewasher was told "we cant check reports we dont have the manpower so whats the point in them??
