Hi Can anyone explain thisto me please : If 1000 watts divided by 240 volts = 4.1 amps (ohms law )

but 1000 watts divided by 12 volts ie bathroom lights = 83.3 amps this cannot be right so how do we work out the amps for 12volt I MUST HAVE BEEN TOLD AT TEC BUT CARN'T REMEMBER

Now, I was lead to believe your calculation is correct which is why 12v lamps are more likely to get hot and catch fire and are a bigger pain in the rear!

But then 1000w of 12v lights is 1000/35 is nearly 30 lights, you wouldnt put them all on 1 circuit anyway

Why do you question this are you confusing yourself, if you have 1000w of 12v lighting then it does take 83.3amps but when its transformed back to 230(240) then the current is roughly 1/20 of this, which is 4.1 amps

The transformers are still 230/240 volts so the 12 volt side does not come into the equation I think
