Best to let us know where you live as you may find that someone has been to the establishment you intend to go to and give you much better feedback before you part with your money.

Compare the college prices and private prices, I paid ÂŁ1500 for the 2330 level 3. My mate at college paid ÂŁ600. He got a better tutor who stayed on at the college throught out the course. I had 3 different tutors and it was a joke.

Good luck

hi would anybody state how much you paied for the OLCI city and guild 2330 level 1 and 2 please as i have been quoted 5358 pound and NVQ 521 POUNDS,do you reckon is it all right? thanks lots.

The total cost for the nvq3 including vat is
ÂŁ5858.85

The level 2 on its own is 13 days split into 5 sessions
The price for this course is ÂŁÂŁ2,752.24

The level 3 on its own is a 10 day course also split into 5 sessions
The price for this course is ÂŁ2,706.40

The nvq3 on-site assessment
The price for this course is ÂŁ500.21

What free things have they thrown in to get people onto the course? Have completed level 2, and want to know before signing up to level 3 what other people have got so I can use it as a bargaining tool - Not that I expect much luck.

You are right they are only their to teach the practical side of the course, but they will help you if you need it. I had one young lad turn up and they told him he needed to gain more experice with a firm or study his books more but I must admit he was very weak in the subject. The job centre paid for the whole of his courses. I was gutted when I heard that. I felt like quiting my job going on the doll and letting the state pay for it. I wish.
What was the Level 3 like as I'm gonna start it when I'm back from my sunshine tour. When you say the NVQ 3 isn't that good in which way plus have you looked anywhere else to do it? Their material does need to be updated that I do agree with.

I did the 2330 level 2 and 3 in about 3 months with a 8 week break inbetween level 2 & 3 so I guess it took 5 months. I did everything at the leeds centre apart from 17th edition, passed everything 1st time. I had Dave Bowlam who was pretty good. I found because I had done electrical stuff before it was fairly easy, but there were people who really really struggled as hadn't done anything electrical before.
I did the NVQ3 information course back in March and was a waste of time, it gives you a 1 page example and thats it. their are some questions for each section after the 3 jobs pages which are called verbal questions which i don't what to do about, I have been told that photo evidence is no good you need lots of specs e.t.c.

If anyone has done the NVQ3 with olci could they lets know what they did and how long it took them.

As for the dole paying for the course...not a chance in hell, I tried as was on the dole when i started the course (girlfriend took out the finance out on it for me), they wouldn't help at all so the guy is either lying or he must have lied to the dole.

Hi first post! I have signed up with the OLCI and have electronics/electrical background. Btec electrical ONC engineering, C&G electronic servicing 224 parts I and II, and ten years experience in the electronics maintenance industry and 16th edition. Now I'm looking to retrain and become an electrician. Curruntly on the level 3 2330. All of the principles are of course the same and as I have 16th edition (although haven't had course to use them in a while) I am familiar with the regulations. I find OLCi admin staff to be very sketchy and on a whole tiresome to deal with. The tutors seem ok but I haven't done any practicals with OLCI so I hope when I actually meet with tutors that they are good.

As a side note I spoke to C&G today ( 15.10.10) and I have been informed that the NVQ 2356 is to be replaced in the new year by the 2357. The main difference is how credits are awarded and used for future learning. I don't believe there are any other practical ramifications.

I'm in two minds wether I should even pay for the NVQ 3 as I'm not even in employment as yet so wouldn't be able to complete it anyhow. I'm also starting to doubt whether I can even get a job as an electrician with my current grades/experience...even if I offer my servces for free :(
