Old Scales failing on 44ma

Have a set of scales that are failing on 44ma leakage they have quite old circuitry with an LED display and two LED lights that are used to switch form Metric to Imperial it seems to work all ok and the casing for the electrcal unit is all plastic. They have a 1amp fuse built in x2 for extra protection and the unit only draws 30mA to work. Seems pathetic to fail this unit and make this company buy a new set it's not like it moves around on the sight. They're in a static place.

Firstly welcome to the pat side of the forum
Are the scales class one or two ?
Are they for use by the public??

think i am right in saying handheld class 1 .075ma others class 1 3.5ma and class 2 .25ma .
(class 1 heating appliances are different 0.75 ma per thousand watts ,max of 5))
Are they antique or modern can you seek advice from the manufacturer ?I have done this when testing unusual appliances which returned weird results and found the results to be as the manufacturer expected.
