Old Smokies

Greetings.
I am going to fit smoke alarms for my family.
The smoke alarms will be inter-linked. One at the bottom of the stairs and one at the top, they will be powered from an existing lighting circuit that is not RCD protected (old fuse board) earth fault loop impedance is fine, TN-S system.
At the top of the stairs is a bathroom and there may be a little steam coming out of it from time to time.
Can anyone recommend a type of smoke alarm that will not trigger when there is steam.
I know of optical and ionising alarms.
Which do you think would be best outside a bathroom or is there another one I have not heard of?
Thanks alot.
:D

It shouldn't be closer than about a metre from the bathroom door, size of the hall allowing - and use optical rather than ionisation, which will be more susceptible to steam.

Worth looking at the Aico radio interlinked stuff, as it will save you trying to get a 3&E between the detectors.

Thanks for the reply.
I put the wiring in last weekend and it's all set to go.
I think hard wired is more reliable.
A metre from the bathroom door will be tough as it is such a small hall.
Just how susceptable are these things to steam?

The Aico wirefree interlinks are pretty reliable - and arguably will last longer in fire conditions, as there is no interlink wiring to melt.

Either way - they're not that susceptible to steam - optical less so. Ionisation detectors *may* in certain circumstances confuse flakes of skin carried in steam as smoke particles, but overall the risk is negligible, and optical detectors better suited to the application.

Thanks mate.
I bought two optical sensors, one for the bottom landing and one for the top.
I'm a wire man, I allways prefer cable.
Aico seem to be the brand to get though.
Good prices.
