Hi guys,

A friend wants an electric shower put in, he has the DB that houses these MCBs : R & B Star Electrical Wholesalers Ltd Crabtree Starbreaker range (old type)

Now, he has 2 spare slots so alls good! However im trying to find a 45A RCBO that may fit? Anybody think any other makes may work? Money is very tight in this instance, otherwise i would replace the DB!

Any information would be good!

Thanks!

Have you tried a Wylex 50a - I don't think they did 45a RCBO on wylex however if you look at the bottom of the description from your link

"if no stock , the Wylex branded version will be supplied "

So I would try a Wylex, they normally fit most boards anyway

I did look at that, its just the rating. 50A is a bit much! I dont think Wylex do a 45A RCBO either..

However, the distance from the DB is probably 7 or 8 m so maybe a 40A will do?

Back to college for me... (9500 / 230 = 41.30A) It will be enclosed in trunking though and not clipped direct.. so will not comply?

Im a commercial sparky so this is all a learning curve!

Thanks

hi mate
my board has the older version of what you have there mine has type 1 yours look like type 2 and you cant get a 45a for it. i have a 9.5kw shower triton and manufacturers instructions say if installing and nominal voltage is 230v then it will be 8.8kw the 9.5kw is if the supply is 240v

I have a TYPE 1 40A bs3871 of those installed for mine and no probs

but dont know where you will get a rcbo replacement for a cb not seen any rcbo for this board mine is split load dual rcd so dont need rcbo
sorry mate i just had a look at fuse company but only do the CBs you have shown not rcbo

First off is that old Crabtree board capable of handling a 45amp load. A lot of the old Wylex/ Crabtree boards were only really designed for a maximum of 30amps so check on that.

If it is ok then why not fit a 50amp MCB to the board that will feed a MK sentry enclosure where you can fit a 45 amp RCBO

45 Amp 30mA RCBO - MK

I have to admit that I would Henly block the tails and fit a small 2 way sentry enclousre with a double pole switch and that RCBO.

I may be trying to teach my granny to suck eggs but as you noted your mainly commercial. This work is notifiable under Part P and therefore if your not part of a self certification scheme you need to contact the LABC. Also you will need to make sure that the earthing and bonding is also upto the 17th edition.

Hope this is of help
