Hi guys, i am just looking for some information on the old style ko boxes with the plastic lugs inside. As i am quite young i have never actually come across this type of box and was wandering if there is anywhere i can get a replacement plastic lug as one has broke. I wanted to try and fix the problem without removing the box completely. If anyone has any idea of where i can pick one up from it would be much appreciated?

cheers

I'll put a couple aside. There's a mix of plastic lug and metal lug boxes, I've to replace the ones that are in stud walls with proper drywall boxes. I was only checking the earthing of metal switch plates (they weren't!) and it took me forever to get the damn things back together again after connecting the earths.

If you get this problem again mate then what you can do is drill the back of the box 3mm (in line with where the lug was) and tap it out 3.5mm with a socket rethreader (widely available from DIY stores) then you use a 75mm long 3.5mm socket screw.....should do the trick mate..........

Adam,
I have one and I've emailed you.

Glennspark,
These boxes are the Appleby ones, 16mm depth, black japanned finish with 2 adjustable lugs.
Unfortunately your trick will not work with these, as there is a nice oval hole stamped in the metal for the excess length of screw to pass through...

Simon.
