Don't know about anyone else or it could just be me but does anyone else try to invent things to help onsite?
I have a little book with loads of ideas and potential time saving and money enhancing ideas, just wondering if anyone else does something similar. My latest one is a piece of solid wire with a hook on the end of it, I like to call it......THE COAT HANGER.

I have often thought can we have a rewind button to get maybe 20 seconds or so of our life back when we read pointless threads/posts on here.

I invented the choc box back in 1999. The problem was Dragons Den wasn't around nor did I have the money or inclination.

Shame, or I'd be spending all my time now in Bangkok snorting Charlie off a prostitutes thigh.

Was using wire coat hangers 30yrs ago when they all were made fro wire .... digressing my job is designing control systems to machines to beat the customers opposition so yes I often have to design and use products to get around issues that most cannot resolve.... I'm the only person in the UK to import certain control equipment and put them to users other than there original market design... even had the top design engineers fly over and see how I've used their equipment so as to develop their sales field..... its all about having a problem that is hard to solve and thinking outside the box....

Reply when you get passed your coat hanger adaption ;)

The coat hanger is an old one, I've had someone show some interest in an idea I had and just if anyone else has had ideas and we're they've ended up with them.

You can buy choc boxes from the wholesalers? Are they the ones you invented or different?

I rang Schneider Tech' and asked a few questions about their PLC logic programming as I was trying to develop a program .... they said I that their PLC can't do what I wanted to which I explained I had already achieved it using their logic program ...they had me send my program and confirmed I had used the unit for a purpose they hadn't realised it could do.... after this all my calls go to their top guys and they give me full respect ... Ive even been asked if I wanted a job but was in a jovial context.

Been down that road myself, had the thanks and trips abroad but never converted it into ££,guess i'm not driven enough...had patents listed in the past for engineered protos' in the golf and air-freshener industries,if you can believe it...now,all these years later,i see inventions going from models to 8 week delivery bound from China, with distribution ready and not much patent protection, not that it can be enforced easily in the global age. Did i mention my 3 speed walking stick? :90:

If you come up with an idea, keep it to yourself and try to protect it. Act fast if you don't want to be saying 'I thought of that ages ago'. How many people will benefit from your invention and hence make a purchase is important e.g. something that aids thatch roofers as opposed to something for parents of babies.
I think most electricians will have ideas as the nature of our trade calls for an engineering mindset

I invented seasonal insulation tape ... well you have thought so when I threw the crap back at the wholesalers saying it don't stick to itself in cold weather...

A bit harsh!
Can't beat a bit of improvisation on-site; scaff poles, old bits of rope, etc., have always come in handy for me.

I once sent the Jack Russel under a void with a rope on it and called it to a brick I'd knocked out on the outside wall ...saved me getting dirty ;).
Improvisation it your intelligence working overtime ;)

Hope that's patented!

Had one of those 40 years ago, an old wall tie, nothing really mind blowing there MerlinGremlin, oh can I have my 20 secs back as well

One of my electronic manufactures, in China sent me a usb hamster wheel, for charging your phone...Instructions were great "Place animal on wheel, plug usb to phone, animal give free power to phone. Note animal no cruel, he naturally happy".....crazy

I invented these apprentice shoes for keeping things clean while they are stood chasing out.

Still looking for a financial backer on this if anyone is interested......?

I'm in the process of designing a product that will be an engineering REVOLUTION. I can't give too much away but it involves a sort of round, polo mint shaped item on the end of a stick or AXLE. It will turn or ROTATE whilst it is in contact with the ground. Myself and my business partner are designing it but we haven't decided what WHEEL call it

Well list those patents internationally,i didn't,and now everybody is manufacturing my solar powered sun-beds...

Not strictly 'on site' but I came up with an idea for this type of business.
Basically you deliver cooking oil to restaurants, collect the used cooking oil and convert it into biodiesel.
The idea was to start small working from a shed just making enough to fuel the van, then move up to an industrial unit and an old petrol station.
It seems nowadays everyone's doing it - I should have been quicker off the mark.

thats nothing to brag about, I wouldn't use one of those under any circumstances, total carp
