Hi all.Aint done many garden installs b4 & can some1 put there beedy eye over this please
am i ok doing it this way cos someone said it wud be sharing neutrals between circuits
is this even 2 circuits or 1 circuit or 2 subcircuits
building officer may poke his nose in onsite looking at other things dont want him pulling me up
am unsure on this & appreciate any help clearing up whats what
wud you other sparks do it this way even
thanks alot
know the drawing is bad so please dont tell me it is - i already know & i tried hard to make it clear
did red for live cos no brown pen
shud i do t&e 13a to 3a fcu s & then from 3a to adapt box even if they dont really do anything? at
least then live is not run on its own anywere cos its behind walls or if fcu s are close dos it matter ?

cheers mate ive been stressing about this for days cos i thought it was ok but some1 said it wasnt
so its ok to SHARE the neutral so long as i dont borrow from another circuit
THat makes me wonder is this all 1 circuit or 2?
so if i was doing a eic shud i put it on same line as ring or seprate line or 2 serpate lines?
thanks alot

Glad you took no offence at the humour :)

A couple of suggestions you might want to consider...

I assume there`s a reason you didn`t want to fit a switched IP FCU at garden end ? With your arrangement there`ll be no independant switching possible - the total subcircuit will be either on or off.
Ensure you clearly mark the 13A switch so that it indicates isolation for both subcircuits must be made there, as simply removing the 3A fuse would cut the one Line only - leaving the `shared` neutral possibly live due to it`s connection to the `other`

This aspect of your plan concerns me a little - i`m not sure i`d have constructed it in that way. Are you starting from scratch or do some elements already exist?

Having said that, i can`t think of a Reg that states you can`t do it that way... anybody?

Lastly, you may wish to terminate your swa at the IP box on house wall but leave the cores long enough to connect into back of FCUs - would do away with another outside connection. And instead of two seperate backboxes could you use a dual accessory backbox for the two FCUs?

Hope that helps

If your taking a single twin and earth from the double socket, then surely putting two FCU's on is wrong, ie. spur off a spur?

Might be wrong but thats my take on it.

If the second FCU is of the fused outgoing side of the first then the is nothing wrong with that as the that and anything else connected to the outgoing side are protected by the 13a fuse in the FCU and not by the main circuit protective device back at the board.

That`s pretty much how i saw it, Ian

To be fair to Jellen, the drawing isn`t all that clear on a smallish screen (no offence Martspark)
Two unfused spurs off (in series) is a def` no no, but if you fuse your tee-off it can supply multiple outlets (or other spurs)
Neither is the neutral being overloaded - as the total being drawn can`t exceed the 13a of the first FCU & as 2.5mm XLPE is being used, no ccc probs. (OP doesn`t mention length of run, etc tho - hopefully disconnection times can be met ok)

thanks fellas.
all your replys have made me feel ok bout doin it like this.i wouldnt usually do it like that but the custermer wanted to switch it all off from the house anyway.
i was goingto lable the switch as you say anyway. good practice to.
So wud you call them bothe subcircuits ? i thinnk so
yeah there was the swa there already i had to add the lights & replace broken skt. and good idea to pull the cores thro the wall to fcus
And the sec fcu IS on the fused outgoing side of fist 1 so it shudn`t be wrong then. and it IS all protected in the 13a 1362.
AND It Isnt a spur from a spur is it. not a question.it is a fused spur. different altogether.
Zs i checked at skt i`m tapping of from. .74ohms and run is 5meters so shudbe .08 more .Will be way under 1.15 (rule of thubm(
Thanks alot again

Happy days then...

Just make sure you`ve informed LABC if you`re not Part P registered (you didn`t say) as it`s notifiable work under Building Regulations

Good luck with it :)
