Hello all, how are you?
Having been in this game quite a while now i often get to thinking!
Would any of you actively encourage your Sons/ Daughters to follow in your footsteps?
I have four Sons, (2 still at school) The older two are working with local building firms (they haven't the patience for this game. I've probably put them off it by coming home late, covered in crap etc!
I'm glad i learnt a trade but for the last few years it has been tough sometimes (getting paid, running your own business etc)
Just wondered what everyone else's views on this are, cheers...
.

Wow, you seem a bit peed.
It's only a general chat about 10 years on the job, how long is a Doctors training?

Not long enough by the story on the BBC news tonight. A doctor that could not diagnose his own illness and then blamed other doctors at the hospital for failing him, because they too couldn’t be @rsed to make an effort. Unless someone rocks up with a cough or cold, they are b0ll0xed!

That's a rather general and for the most part totally unfair blanket statement about a profession that should be respected and that, for the most part, provide one of the best services in the world. Where will you be trotting off to when you get something seriously wrong with you then?

At least when my local doctors have an electrical problem they contact me immediately.....same as I do with them if any medical problem. Each to their own...but some of the stuff they have to do, I wouldn't fancy.

I know a cracking dominatrix that will dish out the best medicine any man could wish for.

Are you seriously saying that an electrician, of any description, is on a par with a Doctor???
If you think about it they are very similar roles (gp's and maintenance/repair electricians) what strongly links them is the methods used to diagnose faults/symptoms.
You could also compare us to the detectives in the police force.

personally, i'd rather go to the vet. vets can diagnose illness without carping on about smoking or having the occasional pint being the root cause of all illness. ( oh. and don't mention ingesting sugar, salt, butter, chips, red meat, fast food, coffeee, tea, white bread, all these will have your average GP reaching for his bottle of scotch in his bottom desk drawer).
