Do you need an rcd for outside lights, the lights will be powered from in side the garage drilled though to the lights on the outside no wire showing. I would say yes it does need a Rcd, keep on getting different messages. Problem is there is no space left on the rcd side so I would need to fit a rcbo (cost)?. So just seeing if a need to rcd it.

Also on timber frame houses on the internal wall can you rod top to bottom of the walls (i.e first floor to loft area) or is there usually a noggin stop you doing this.

no rcd if cable clipped direct or in conduit/trunking.
yes there will most definitely be a header on an internal timber framed wall ;)

hi there should be noggins. And according to regs Rcd. so looks like rcbo for you pal. be safe not sorry and it is notifiable job.
Take a look at this mate. You'll find that it won't need notifying, and if the cable is protected, won't need an RCD.
