Do outside half lanterns need to be on a rcd? or can they come directly off a lighting circuit?
Also, out door fairy lights, can you wire them directly to a lighting circuit so they are perminant?

im still learnin and a novice so cant say for sure but one thing im guessin is that your outside wall lights will need rcd as outdoors.. and can be fed from your light circuit if itself is rcd protected etc and can handle the extra load etc. as far as im awere all outdoor stuff needs rcd unles extra low voltage. dont take my word for it though! someone here will no doubt set ya right

Strangely enough they don`t need RCD protection per se if installed on the exterior wall of your house (course, they would need to be suitable for installed conditions - IP rated etc) If elsewhere then they would.

However, any lighting cct feeding them would (under the 17th & thats what will apply if you install them now) require RCD protection if any of it`s cabling is concealed in walls <50mm or contains metallic studding (& that applies to a LOT of homes)

Would also req RCD protection if cct also feeds bathroom etc & to boot would become notifiable (true for kitchen too)

I won`t even mention discrimination of circuits :D
