looking for some help , carrying out work in a building just now with scaffold round the parimeter, theres a streetlight 3 feet away from the scaffold and some clown from planning is worried about faults occuring in the streetlight and it arcing to the scaffold , i know what ur thinking , the lights off during the day , but this jobs worth is a stickler , ive bonded the scaffold to our installation because of the use of portable tools but is there anything else someone can think of , arcing i ask u !!!!

streetlighting dept of the cooncil should be asked for test certs and if possible to take fuse out of pole therefor removing the possibility of "Arking" the main contractor could suggest putting temp bulkheads inplace of streetlight

as you say some wee jobsworth who has heard this term "Arcing" and thinks he knows all about it

streetlamp isnt dangerous but its the possibility factor lol, rigging up temp lights then means that were running a supply on 2 scaffold and it wd need earthed but can anyone say that there's continuity to all parts , and even drawing fuse from bottom of the pole still leaves a supply , i know its a 1 in 10000000 chance of a fault but this pie says , "it might happen ""

Can you not fix a sheet of 3/4 ply to the scaffold, directly opposite the street light, as a kind of shield, to placate this fool. And then just bamboozle him with phrases like "insulation of live parts and "barriers and enclosures";):D.

yea spenny but the temp lighting would be 110v cte get a grinder cut the streetlight away and resin joint cables underground ? seems like thats what mr BC wants IMO these people should either be FULLY qualified in subject or NOT allowed to comment at all a Little knowlage can sometimes be wosre than no knowlage

Jobsworth has no idea what he is talking about given that the street lamp will be earthed and a fault current arcing is impossible , however to satisfy him bond the street lamp to the scaffold :D

Tell him to stop spouting s*** and if he is really concerned then tell him to go and make himself look a complete t**t and ask one of his Council works dept sparkies to come out and check it over, thats once the sparky has picked himself up off the floor laughing his b***s off:D

Council jobsworths almost as stupid as MP's.

Just ask him to show which reg he's referring too or what reference he's basing his stipulation on you are entitled to ask, if he can't show you in black and white then he hasn't got a leg to stand on, don't confront him in front of anyone as he will just get worse, as he will have to lose face, if not get him to get the local council sparks to do it, it's there property :D think you may need slightly more voltage say transmission level to get an arc across 3ft :D
