Have any of you had issues with slight peaks in voltage over 253V tripping inverters, I called sma and they said they are recieving 10 calls a day about inverter parameters to combat this.

Has anyone thought about using a voltage smoothing device at the incomer i have seen these on the market they smooth the voltage to 230V.

Got one at the moment. Started on the 9th July according to the event log on the inverter.

DNO are now monitoring the voltage to the property as it is end of line and has its own regulator. Have to say for UK Power networks they couldn't help enough!

Awaiting outcome form the monitor before looking into alternative devices such as the V phase units.

If the voltage goes over 253v, isn't the DNO obliged to correct it?

Hi BiggsSolar
Yes they do , but they also have a loverly little caviat in their obligations that means they can pretty much do what they like for 5% of the time .
Which equates to near on one and a quarter hours a day with no power at all if they so wished !
Now we all know this would never really happen , but it does mean that they have got a bloody big get out clause when they want if you approach them wrong !

We've had this problem a couple of times, you have to set the SMA parameters to UK and G83. If you take the front cover off the inverter, you will see 3 dials. The left one needs to be set to 5 and the middle one set to 8. If you don't set this pre-installation and the inverter re-sets more than 10 times ie. first thing in the morning etc. you cannot manually change the settings. You then have to reprogram the inverter with your laptop. Contact SMA for details
