hi,

What qualifications are needed in order to issue a Periodic Inspection Report.
Im currently 17th edition and will go for my 2391 very soon. Is it possible to issue a PIR after 2391 or will I have to register with Niceic or napit?

thanks

Legally anyone can issue a PIR.

Customers will usually want some evidence of competence though and 2391 is usually a big part of that.

Councils often insist on NICEIC Approved Contractors. If you plan on doing work for them, then ask them what they require.

You need to have knowledge and experience relevant to the type of installation being inspected, you need to know and understand the test procedures outlined in BS7671 and GN3, and you need to have the required calibrated test equipment. For your own sake you should also have PI insurance. It's a big responsibility, not one to be taken lightly, especially anywhere where insurance companies are involved.

You don't need to be registered to a Part P organisation as Periodic Testing and Inspection is not notifiable! If you don't have your 2391-10 at least, then if you get into trouble and have to defend yourself in court then you may find it difficult to prove you are competent.

I think (don't quote me) that C&G expect several years testing and inspection experience before taking the 2391-10 exam although, amazingly, some people seem to be doing it as part of a domestic installer course prior to any experience which doesn't sound right to me.

There is no prerequisite to go on a 2391 course believe it or not so anyone can do it which I think is wrong. Is this the reason why its such a hard exam?
