Paid electrician, is this right or normal?

I’ve had an electrician rewire my house.
Is it normal for him to leave it like this…


Also, some switched were the wrong way round.

Is this normal to leave it like this for me to sort out or should they at least clean the plaster splashes off?

And as for using LAP... thats not important . he can use what ever he wants unless its agreed to use a specific brand

Plastering to an acceptable finish is another trade altogether. There shouldn’t be the assumption that an electrician will fill, finish and possibly decorate.

Probably comes from other trades, joiners, plasterer etc saying they’ll move a socket for the customer, save getting a spark in… it’s only 3 wires innit….

He’s done you and himself a favour by half filling… something that can be hidden by the finish coat.

We seem to making an awful lot of excuses for the sloppy workmanship of this so called electrician, should not those that have defended hold themselves up to a higher standard?

Personally speaking, yes I would have done a neater job of the patching in regardless of what was agreed. But that's just my own pride and OCD kicking in.
But we don't know the full details, what was agreed with costing, finish etc... If the OP wants to share that detail and maybe we would be in a better position to pass comment.

I never do the finishing plastering on a rewire job. I do fill in a bit to make safe and secure. If customer requests me to do it, I will. I always warn them I’m rubbish at plastering, so it won’t look pretty.

but if a good standard finish is wanted get a plasterer in as thats what they do.

different trades for different skills.

Pay me £250 a day for electrical work.

pay a plasterer £150 a day for plastering work.

edit: @LukeD absolutely agree. What has LAP products got to do with anything. LAP are made and manufactured to a British standard. So what’s the problem?
so some of you don’t like them. There are plenty of things I don’t like doesn’t mean they are wrong and shouldn’t be used.
there are some very snobby sparkies on here sometimes.

I personally have not used LAP products, but this doesn’t mean I wouldn’t.

I had A list of terms and conditions on all my quotes. One of those is I did not do plastering of chased out walls. A separate trade would be needed to do this.

this was on all my quotes regardless of if I was doing chasing or not. Also I’d put on the quote please read carefully the terms and conditions.

75% of customers look at the price, then agree or not to the quote. They never look at the details never mind the terms.
after the job is finished they used to question why th3 chasings are not plastered.
after a few of these I started verbally telling the customers about non plastering in the terms and to read them.
no problems after that.

I suppose it’s too much to expect some customers to read the quote.

All my estimates very clearly state in bold that I do not make good any chases or repair any plaster work unless this agreed before I start work. I always do my best to keep the chases and damage to a minimum however. I have seen some sparks who butcher peoples walls to the point they need replastering and skimming which imo is very poor work by the sparks. But if you get cheap workers in they will smash and grab with no regard for the next bloke.

As for LAP , I don't mind LAP switches and sockets they are no worse than other budget brands imo

I'm in no way snobbish or elitist about different brands of accessory, but to me the use of LAP products points more to DIY or cash in hand merchants who don't have wholesaler accounts and get everything from Screwfix, just my thoughts though.

I get around 95% of my stuff from screwfix ?

twin n earth Cable , clips, back boxes , accessories , down lights , lamps etc etc pretty much always from screwfix or toolstation

Only get swa and some other bits and bobs like trunking from my local wholesalers

From my experience it is all a much of a muchness on most stuff

The main reason I drop into screwfix most weeks is their prysmain twin and earth is about 15% cheaper than my wholesalers
