Ive been asked to quote for a Panic alarm with an external sounder in a small town centre kiosk for a company i do maintenance for. I was thinking of either a basic alarm panel with just a panic button and ext sounder wired in or a small Din rail enclosure with a 12v power supply then a panic button and sounder.

Looking for pro's and cons of each method and whether theres a better way to do it...

I'm taking a spark with me to connect this up and he reckons i should go with a panel but im interested in other opinions as well as he doesnt have much experience with alarms.

Any help appreciated!

Stu

a small 12V PSU to feed a self-activating sounder. break one leg with a panic button. simple.

should be OK> it only needs to supply enough current to keep the ni-cad charged. try a bench set-up first.

make sure the panic button is not the reed switch type, They are the same as door contacts, and cannot carry loads above 1mA

good point. forgot about that. the ols micro switch type would be the right type.

I think that link is to a PDF on your hard drive tel as it doesnt work for me...

I'm looking on the Knight Fire and security website though (or i will be after the 2nd half of the football!)

if you look down the list in the left of their page, it tells if each none is reed or m/s.

If your good with a solder iron, can give you a simple circuit, so you can use the reed pa button to drive any load.

'Good' is not the word i would use for my soldering but ive been doing a little bit of it on PCB's and stuff, i'll probably use a microswitch for this job but i would be interested to see how it could be done with a reed switch if its not too much trouble for you to draw out?
