Hi guys I'm a little confused about the part p course. Can I do a 5 day part p course at a local college instead of through the nic etc? If I do the course off my own back and not through the nic does this then mean I can sign off my own work or do I need to be registered to sign off work?

You can do the part P course with however you wish once all the exams are passed which should include the C&G 2382.

Once passed you would then need to register with the NICEIC NAPIT or whoever suits you the best that will allow you to work on any domestic property and issue your own certificates. Without it you will have to notify your local building control and pay them for any notifiable work you do.

Hope that helps

Chris

no you would still have to register with the scheme, the college course will be a domestic installer course.

Why would you want to do a Part P course.

Judging by your previous posts you are more than qualified to join a scheme without doing this.

Just choose your scheme provider and apply for membership - you pay the fee, they assess you and that's it, you're in:)

I do have the qualifications wayne but I already work for a large electrical company, and I don't want to register with the niceic and get found out I'm doing private work at weekends. Or can I not get traced through the nic?

From that point of view it is very easy to be found out as a matter of course your details will appear on the NICEIC website and also in the yellow pages paid for by the NICEIC and if you want work you will have to do some form of advert yourself.

Chris

There is no such thing as a Part P course. Part P is a building regulation. There are no qualifications in building regulations.

Cheers..........Howard

Goes downstairs to look for free advert in yellow pages from NIC..............

You don't lie, I really shouldn;t have changed my business name from beginning with A though, as I'd have been the first on the (long) list! Also it seems to point domestic customers to the domestic installers instead of approved contractors, almost as if AC is a lower level of membership! Ah well I hate house work anyway
