I was in the contracting industry from 1956 to 2008 ,as an electrician , a contracts engineer ,and contracts manager. And now understand that I may not legally run electrics to my new garden shed. A task which is within my skill level
Sure, we must have anti cowboy legislation , but surely not to this extent?

Only to a man like yourself sir I would say:- Any like for like changes to "an existing circuit" does not need notifying to building control. "So if" your shed had a supply, sockets and switches that "needed replacing" it doesn't need notifying.

If any Diyers look at this post, forget what I've said unless you've got an engineering degree plus decades of experience.

This is just one of the many subjects of the part p that I really don't like. You can rewire a factory but you can't add a light in a bathroom, go figure?

You can legally run electrics to your new garden shed.
You just have to either notify the Local Authority Building Control, or register with one of the Part P scheme providers.

I was very tempted to make a Building Control Application for the Bird Box I put up last year. Although it's under the normal size limit (<15sqm) it does contain a bedroom and ELV lighting (non plug-n-play) for the web cam.
