welcome to the forum mate.

may I suggest you have a search through this place as it's been discussed again and again.

We've all had to retrain as this guff gets introduced.

Regards the part p, it would depend on if you were directing your clientele towards the domestic market.

join the club mate. everybody i know, both on this forum and elsewhere is p****d with part p and the bureaucracy and costs. my advice would be , if you are going on your own, to build up work, avoiding notifiable work where possible, then, when you have a steady work load and a bit of spare dollar, join napit or elecsa for self cert. of notifiable works. bear in mind that if you go for industrial or commercial work, part pee does not apply.

edit. probably better off going for industrial. less cut-throat and usually , unlike the domestic market, clients appreciate a good job at a fair price.

Hi mate
You dont need part p or 17th to join a scam but they will ask you to gain the 17th in first year after assessment if you are already a qualified time served elecy then as long as you can prove your competent to the assessor of which ever scam you join at least as far as Elecsa are concerned as for nic somebody else may be able to help you just have to pay about £400+ to join have some work to show assessor PLI, BS7671,on site guide, approved doc P and memorandum of guidance on electricity at work regs sample of the certs you give out if you go on elecsa website that willshow you what you need

Train as a plumber mate then you can charge someone £250+ to replace a diverter valve, anyone can do electrics - unless you want to do it properly and even then you'll still find some box you haven't ticked:mad:

it all seems a bit of a mess to me .was jib approved about 15 yrs ago does this help in anyway to cut through any of this bullpoop

If you were JIB approved once then you should be able to get it back. You will though have to take the 17th to get it back, if you haven't got the 2391-10 then they may insist on that as well.

Having a JIB card is not a pre-requisite for joining a scheme, it will though be proof of your competance and the initial assessment will be less formal and not as intensive.

If your 16th is after the BS7671-2001 amendment it will be the 2381 then the 17th upgrade is a simlpe 1 day "refresher" but if it is prior then you need to do the 3 day one.

IMO anyone thinking about coming back into the industry should by duty of care be up to date regulation wise.
