Part 'p' question

Hi All , Am looking at doing part 'p' certification very soon and was thinking of consumer unit change as the main assesment. However my question is if i do the CU change what exactly will be looked at by the asseser ?

Obviously the CU itself and Bonding e.t.c but will they also be looking at other parts of the house and the existing circuits that I have had no dealings with. Obviously when rewiring the circuits into the CU they will be tested for IR e.t.c.

What I am worried about is they may look at work I have not carried out i.e a submain into a garage that may not be to current spec. Where do I draw the line on whats exactly required.

I am fully aware of all the documents , knowledge of regs required e.t.c , its just the practical side.

Any help much appreciated.

First thing make sure it tidy , all MCB's are the correct values ,and same type dont mix C and B ,make sure all connections are tight , he will then ask you a few questions and ask you to test the Ze and do continuity and R1 and R2 tests on a lighting and radial and a ring main when you do the ze dont forget to isolate the supply and disconnect the main earth as you may get incorrect readings , they are just going to asses you to confirn you can test ,that was with elecsa may be differant with other trade bodies hope thats a help and as A Cat say too
and HSE Complaits TESt equipment calibration that you have all appropriate books regs on site guide building regs etc ,

Can I ask why you cannot mix them there is no regulation saying you can't:mad::mad:, it would depend upon what the MCB was supplying and this would be sorted during the design of the installation.

It may be that in the garage the is a welder and due to the inrush current a type C or D is required.
 
I thought that when you are doing a mains change you are acctually effecting every cct in the property, thus the whole property would need bringing up to current spec.
 
Search the posts I think it was Lenny that had a post CU changes it covers just about everything. IMO if you change a CU you are responsible for the CU only nothing else.

Correct....each circuit requires assessing individually for the appropriate protective device,and each circuit may need a different type mcb.

You need to test and inspect the circuits you are reconnecting to ensure they are safe to do so,that is not quite the same as bringing up to current spec

Examples would be a ring circuit with 1.omm cpc checking the reading to ensure Zs was within range
The size and condition of supply earth conductor and bonding,to ensure it complied
The insulation resistance values ,that it complies and will not cause nuisance tripping when an Rcd is fitted,
shared neutrals that may exist,but were never evident

You are not expected to be, and not responsible for, the construction of the existing installation

You can test and inspect until father xmas comes along,but there may be items unforseen,twisted connections under floorboards, connector blocks, here there and everywhere,poor terminations,the list is endless
You can try and ensure what you are reconnecting is safe,but there is no responsibility for the existing other than to try and ensure it is safe to re connect

Anything more than this, and we would have to all be trained clairvoyants to work in the industry
 
IT exactly what i thought i was being assesed by elecsa for periodic inspections and there was 1 C type MCB in the board and i was told they cannot be mixed because they reduce the ka rating of the board , i can under stand that in three phase when you mix 6000 ka and 10000ka so i have asked technical the question again i will post reply on here
