I have achieved Nvq level 3 in electrical installation as well as the Am2 to become JIB registered. However I am concerned about part P, some people have said I need this to sign off my installations others say different, could someone please shed some light on this as I am wanting to install test and sign off my own work.

Thanks

It depends on your objectives.

If you do not sign up with a scheme provider, then obstacles will be placed in front of your freedom to carry out work in the domestic field.
You can still carry out the work, but if the work is notifiable then you would need to deal with the LABC on every individual installation. With this you would need to arrange a meeting with them at times, and there will be a charge for every instance... The charges vary. My experience is that this method is very unpractical if you are considering domestic work.

Whilst signing up to a scheme provider may be intimidating, and expensive, it is really cost effective.

When you say ' I need this' you do understand that Part P is not a qualification?

its a scam where people can earn money off your hard work while sitting in a nice comfy office basically its a tax on being a sparky

I couldn't agree with you more on this, you would think that the NVQ L3 and AM2 would say "okay this guy knows how to work and carry out installations safely"....... I don't think its fair to be honest.

Since when has Part P had anything to do with being fair?

If fairness to the customer and the spark were the real issues, their would be a requirement for supervised experience, qualifications etc for the spark so that the customer could expect someone that knew what the hell they were doing!

The fact that someone who has never installed anything as paid work and only ever changed their own consumer unit to enable them to get their badge can enter a dwelling as a member of a government approved scheme is laughable to say the least ........................ ;)

and its about to get worse, now adults wont be able to attend college through the 3 year route then the only option left is a one week course
