I have been having an arguement with another sparks about the requirement of being Part P qualified.

He says that he doesn't need to be part P to swap two low voltage transformers in ground lights in a domestic garden because they are SELV.

Surely Part P being required for domestic covers the whole installation and not just the building?

Any help? A nights beer is resting on this and he can drink like a fish! Thanks Guys.

Go onto the niceic web site and down load pocket guide 8 on part p notifiable work. You will get your answer, get your proof and get a lot of drinks paid for you. Have a good night. And please drink responsible ha ha.

I think your friend is correct but because he is replacing, not installing.

It has nothing to do with SELV, the supply to the transformer is not SELV!

Yes, I've re-read your post and IQ and televtrix are correct. (im having one of those brain fart days, took me 3 attempts this morning to tie me shoe laces). Like for like with no change in voltage = your out of pocket. Next time I'll put my brain into gear before my mouth, thank you for correcting me.

Your mate is correct:cool:, he doesn't need to be Part P qualified, this is because there is no such thing as a qualification for Part P, it is not a course you can do, it is a building regulation which has to be adhered to when carrying out work, just the same as any other part of the building regs:rolleyes:. Looks like you are in for an expensive night:D
