Hi guys,
Ive been a sparky for a few years now and im going to finally get my Part P registration, just a few questions:

1: Which is the best overall scheme provider?

2: Im thinking of having one of my assessments as a new shower circuit install, How much of the circuit ie under floors, ceilings do they need to see/inspect?

3: Also can you have both jobs for assessment at the same location?

4: Has anyone failed their assessment and had to do a reassessment?

Cheers I hope some of you can help.

IMO ELECSA but NICEIC are a more well known brand

They will not want to see anything under floors or in ceilings, they will see both ends of the install and your test results.

ELECSA normally allow you to do a one major install ie a CU change. If you just doing that shower circuit then you will need to do another larger install. NICEIC usually wnat them in 2 seperate lacations, but I gather they can be a little more flexible about this.

I'm sure they have. I'm sure they will be reasassed if they pay again.

1. napit or elecsa

2. they will inspect only what can be seen without pulling up floors. more to the point is they need to asses your knowledge of testing, and most importantly, safe working. e. g. safe isolation and live testing.

3. they need to see a major job and a minor job. both can be the same location, even in your own home. a phone call to one of the above scheme providers is a good idea.

Thanks guys, what 2 installs would you recommend for the major and minor then? Also do they go through much of the paperwork with you? Also do they give recommendations on how they want you to carry out some work?

A CU change is always a favourite and that shower would be fine.

You have to remember whoever you go with your going to be a cash cow for them so unless you are blatanly bad they are pretty easy going. They will assess your qualifications and experience and the assessor will no within minutes if your competant.

You will have to make sure you have the BS 7671-2008 OSG PL insurance, copies of the GS 38 and the EAWR-1978 amendment etc etc. He will want to see your certs for your 2 jobs and ask you questions on them, like how did you do the RCD test, how would you do a Ze test, and then ask you to show him a few tests procedures, espicially safe isolation.

If it's the NICEIC you go with then the chances are they will lecture you on good practice and what they consider that is, the others ELECSA NAPIT will just tell you if you need help to call their tech line

The above is excellent information and accurate.
My first job was a complete rewire (domestic). About an hour on site, then the rest of the time was taken up with paperwork.
My field officer (NAPIT), caught me out on cable numbering in the db. And also numbering the mcb ect.
Ze on 'board, he also looked for grommets in the ko boxes.
Relax on the day, enjoy it.... And good luck my friend,
