Hey Folks

I have taking the plunge and set up my own company about a month ago, im now looking at getting part P registered with elecsa. Regarding the inspection of work carried out by elecsa before i can be approved is this inspection carried out on completed work or work that im currently doing, ie would i have to contact clients I have completed work for and ask for access to there homes in order for the work to be inspected.

Cheers

Nick

Hi, i have had 2 Elecsa inspections, the first was on a completed CU change, the second was on a work in progress rewire. Both went ok, as long as you do everything by the book you shouldn't have any probs, the assesors are very helpful and easy going, good luck

Do you think it would be better to have 2 smaller jobs like new sockets than 1 full rewire? I'm just doing a rewire at the moment and thinking of using it as an example but worried what sort of questions they might ask about it.

Do they ask about cable calcs or anything like that? I'm just using 2.5mm for rings, 1.5mm for lights and 4mm for cooker.

Elecsa like to see 1 major (EIC type work - replacement CU, new circuit, etc) and 1 minor (MWC - extra socket, outside light, etc).

Give them a call and they'll send you a pack of info/expectations for your review!

With the safe isolation demo, is it sufficient to use the voltage tester on my Megger MFT or do you have to have a separate VID and proving unit?

No. Need approved voltage tester. Ive got proving unit but he never metioned it to me.
Ring elecsa really nice people minimum you need is a cu change. Assesment seems scary but guy i had put me at ease straight away and if you know what your doing youll be fine.
Dont have to know everything just how and where to find it. I went blank for 30 seconds when he asked me to describe what a tncs system was he just laughed.

Approved meaning in accordance with GS38?

Well it doesn't sound too bad, might freeze up if they ask me about cable calcs though. I'm guessing they let you refer to BS7671 for that?
