How would you go about reporting somebody for doing notifiable works to a poor DIY standard? (with no notifications and probably no insurance etc.).

Is it possible to? Would it be worthwhile (would they actually get a 'telling off' from anybody)?

The person I have in mind has undercut me on a few prices in the past, I've witnessed a first fix in progress by them and it
looked like they had thrown it in from the van.. and they are currently working for a builder
who I've discovered is doing some work on an elderly relatives house (it's starting to get personal)!

I'm not normally one to cause any sort of scene but I'm a bit ****ed off that I pay out for this / that and the other while others blatently never do and always get away with it.

definatly get him done if his works sh*t, as this is robbery without the gun, but as for undercutting you, thats business. Me, i would get him simply for the rubbish install workmanship!!

talk to elderly relative. give their work a visual. if it's pants, then tackle them about it.

When you say eradicate, do you actually mean eradicate?? As in eliminate, distinguish...kill?? Not that i care, i was just wondering if you need any extra work because i've got a few people that i need eradicating....

Its about time the scam providers could do something about these unregistered rogues, but i think its unlikely they just want an easy £500 off us reputable guys!!

My Ex wife for one lolol

You might get lucky with the LABC. I had one pay me a visit last year when I was rewiring one of my rentals. Just asked what I was doing and if I was registered... I thought the big van with NICEIC approved contractor would have been a hint

The only way to report someone is to the LABC, if they are not registered with a Part P Competent Person Scheme and they are not registering their work with the LABC.

The only other way is to let his customers know hes breaking the law, or get hold of trading standards.

Believe it or not (I didnt until today after talking to Napit) a builder/Tradesman does not need any insurance in which to carry out any work.

The insurance is only a requirement for those companies/customers who insist on checking its in place and the Part P Competent Person Schemes.

I would report him to the LABC, and the HMRC, as i bet he isnt declaring the money he is earning - as i doubt you have his address, give them his vehicle details and they will follow it up

If you check his work during the intall and it still looks crap, get on to the building inspector again, get him to the job and show him why/how its crap!
