Allo

I'm an industrial spark (no part-p) and my mate wants me to wire his extension up.

I plan on extending the ring main and lighting to power the upstairs and down stairs power points etc.

Would i have to use conduit as the walls are less than 50mm blah blaaaah ?

Would the radiator need bonding ?

My Q is after looking at the part p etc i am unsure if i need to part p the install as im only extending the ring etc.

Any help chaps ?

Call me stupid but i not done domestics for over 15 years so as ya can see a tad confused lol

Any work you do you will have produce a minor works certificates so you will have to carry out testing of the circuits insulation resistance circuit resistance etc

James

Yup got ya.

Do i just get the sheets of the nett etc.

I have just looked and their is some test sheets stating (minor electrical work test certs) are these the ones ?

Also just looked at a document and it asks for a CPS number.

What is this and do i need it for the cert i will give to the client etc ?

If the you have paid the LABC are they are proposing to carry out site visits during the building works, you can inform them that you will be carrying out the electrical installation and they will need to organise someone to check your work at their cost, as this is part of the fees you paid, as you progress, as you are not registered.

It is their responsibility to ensure the work complies, BUT if it doesnt YOU will need to put it right at your cost.

You may find you will get some resistance from them on this, and if they do, ask them to read Doc P.

Some info:

Where installers are not qualified to complete BS 7671 completion certificates

1.24 Where such installers (who may be contractors or DIYers) carry out notifiable electrical work, the building control body must be notified before the work starts. Where the work is necessary because of an emergency the building control body should be notified as soon as possible. The building control body then becomes responsible for making sure that the work is safe and complies with all relevant requirements in the Building Regulations.

1.25 The amount of inspection and testing needed is for the building control body to decide, based on the nature and extent of the electrical work. For relatively simple notifiable jobs, such as adding a socket-outlet to a kitchen circuit, the inspection and testing requirements will be minimal. For a house re-wire, a full set of inspections and tests may need to be carried out.

1.26 The building control body may choose to carry out the inspection and testing itself, or to contract out some or all of the work to a specialist body which will then carry out the work on its behalf. Building control bodies will carry out the necessary inspection and testing at their expense, not at the householders’ expense.

Could be crown prosecution service if you've been naughty:)

This is Competent Person Scheme number
Its applicable if you are registered as self certificating so it is not applicable for you

I coloured it brown because its all a load of sh--e :)

No test or inspection im 16th edition etc

With me looking at the work it's only extending the ring blah blah.

I will complete the minor works cert.

And if the lad wants a complete test on the house hmm he will have to pay for it himself as after reading about it ,it looks like i can do a minor work cert but will check up.

Thanks for your time chaps

I will be back..........

If its not in a kitchen or special location/installation then its non- notifiable.

Your work would need to comply to 17th Ed' BS7671.
Would the radiator need bonding ?
What radiator??, Very unlikely

Allo again,

Yes i understand all now but as i have been looking up on the sites etc my mate now tells me he wants a bathroom extractor fan wiring up.

To my understanding this has to be part P if its a new circuit, unless its just to replace the exicisting fan.

If i pull the power off the lighting would this be a new circuit. as im only extending the lighting radial would this come under part P.

Is this correct ?

If you make any modifications to a circuit in the bathroom this is notifiable work. So extending the lighting circuit means would would need to inform the LABC before beginning work.
