Does anyone know if you can register for part P without taking the qualification. I have worked for NIC registered companies & been in the business for 35 years. I have done everything Domestic, Industrial & commercial. I have also designed systems & done some really peculiar control systems. I have always worked to current regulations & see taking a course as throwing away money to learn what I already know.

Any suggestions?

bear in mind that there is no such animal as a part p qualification. it's a building reg. concerning electrical work.

Cheers for that. I do know that it's a building regulation & I was told a couple of years ago that it's not a qualification. I was just wondering if it's regarded as such by the NIC & the other bodies when applying for registration though. Do they want that bit of paper to say a course has been completed? If they do, it's sodding annoying!

With your experience the assessor will ask you if HE did ok. You will get in no bother they are nearly taking Sparks prisoners for their money.

Thanks all for your help on this one. I feel enlightened now.

I have just taken the latest 17th Regs & have found out that part P will change in 1 to 2 years. They are putting it to the government that everyone who applies for registration has taken the 4 years C & G, without exception. Whether It will be passed in it's entirety remains to be seen. It is probably OTT, but when you consider that people are coming into the industry that have never even worked on the tools, but have gained certificates, then that is too far the other way.

I appreciate that everyone has to learn & find their way, but people are being let loose on their own without a clue what the're doing in a work environment. I thought that's what all this was supposed to stop.
