OK,

all you bright sparks out there in Sparky land

I did my 2377 200 yesterday and meant to ask a question which I forgot to do.

How do you test a 3, 5 or 10 KVA centre tapped site transformer 3ph 110v ???

Any suggestions please, and keep them clean.. LOL

Because it has a 230v plugtop on it you can test it the same as any other 230v appliance. I use a small uninsulated screwdriver to clip the wander lead to and poke it in the earth socket of the transformer to test earth continuity.

Sorry Matey,

I think you are talking about the small portable 230v/110v transformers

I am on about 3ph 400/110v site transformers

as the pic here.

Cheers

define "TEST" what is it your wanting to test? supply would be a 3ph n earth ie no neutral from a "D" type mcb preferably Out puts should be 110v Line to Line and 55v Line to earth the tranny will have MCBs double pole protecting sockets one shown has 2no 32a and 2no 16 probably 3 mcbs 1 each for the 32s and 1 for each pair of 16a s

i've wired a few of the 400v(2-phase) aka 3-phase trafos

i think the one shown in the pic is actually 3-phase-maybe 3P+E delta primary

not familiar with PAT but i'd be checking earth continuity on the appliance and centre-taps

also IR on the primary and sec windings to earth and each other(earth link removed)

IR on the sec DB wiring

corrrect function of DP mcbs and 55-0-55 sec voltage

Beware tho,

they can blow the fuse in your PAT tester, and also in the Past, have tripped out the main RCD on the fuse board (only on one site tho, but it happens every time during Run Leakage Test)...

Also, you need something like a Megga Tester to test the timings on the RCD's themselves..... something for somebody with a C&G 2391 Inspection & Testing qualification.

@Liberator,
how and why are you doing Run Leakage Test on a 3ph Transformer?
What particular test are you doing that is blowing the fuse in your tester?
What test equipment are you using?
