I am an unpaid volunteer at a charity shop in Llanelli and I do PAT testing for them when I am not needed at work. I tested a Hotpoint Iced diamond RFAA52 fridge freezer, the plate on the back said 150 W but it had a moulded plug which said 13 amp. I went on Hotpoint's web site and found the instruction book which said 13amp. I was torn between following the plate and fitting a 3amp and following the instruction book. In the end I left the 13 amp fuse in the plug. Was this the right choice, I have noted lots of moulded plugs which have to high a fuse for the appliance and have changed them for lower fuse ratings but now I think this must be the wrong thing to do.

Personal;ly I'd always follow Manufacturers instructions, but I guess it comes down to the size of the flex more than the motor rating.. if it's clearly a .75 3 core it's going to want that 3a fuse in.
