Hi people, Hope someone can give a bit of advice.
I have been doing some pat testing for a residential for a few years now. They have adjustable beds for the residents which contain transformers. A couple of the beds are failing the Insulation resistance test on my tester and before I tell them to renew these expensive items I was wondering if it could be the trannys causing the problem?
Thanks in advance

are the tranny's in the bed at the residential when you are testing (only joking lol) quite possible the transformer could be causing this out of curiousity are there any neon lights on the controls or anywhere on the bed?

Not telling granny to suck eggs, but check for neon lights on the controls - wired live/earth play havoc with IR readings!
I'm guessing adjustable beds have motors though so it could be a genuine fail reading from degrading motor windings! Take care!

Best rule of thumb - if in doubt, always fail it. Finding fault is what you're paid for!

Thanks guys, they probably have some small neons on the LV side probably on the controller. Hadn't even thought of that
As suggested I have failed these this time around and I seem to remember failing the same couple last year so I will investigate. There are roughly 15 of these on the job so next time I'm there testing it should be pretty obvious if only the ones with neons are failing:)

If they failed last time and are still in service and failing again, I would be asking serious questions of the responsible person about what has been done to make these safe. Back this up with a written report. Make sure you cover yourself because if anything goes wrong, you could be in the firing line. PAT is done for reasons of health and safety, and if it is being ignored then laws are being broken.
