Sorry if it's posted in the wrong place.
I own a guesthouse and just wondered if things in the kitchen need tested, kettle, washing machine etc, these are not touched by guests.
the person that pat tests for me says it has to be done as it is a fire risk, which I think makes a lot of sense, I get everything checked.
The guesthouse across the road has his pat tested but he has been told that only things guest related have to be done so that's what his guy does.
Surly insurance would require all things to be tested.
who is correct?
thanks
Tom

The ultimate answer would come from your insurance company themselves.
They might ask for it to protect your guests from electric shock for public liability purposes, if you employ staff to protect them from electric shock for employer liability purposes, or to protect the property from fire.

With previous post i didn't mean to exclude the guests. Both staff and Jo public will be looking for 'No win No fee' if they receive any electric shocks

Do you have staff and do they use these items? If not then you don't have to prove they are safe to use
Thank you all for the replies,
We do not have any staff,
I think my guy just loves to put stickers on everything which actually looks quite messy on plug tops, especially in rooms. I have seen some in hotels which go on the cable, it looks a lot neater.

It,s about proving you have taken adequate measures to ensure safety, and I agree stickers look crap on everything I once had a general manager of a up markek gaff having a flakey cos he could see stickers

You do not have to put stickers on anything. I always ask the customer if they want stickers, and if so on the plug tops, on the appliance, or on the lead. If they don't want any stickers visible then they don't have to have any at all.

I didn't think u needed stickers as I have a record of all appliances tested. Thanks to everyone for all the useful information. It also could save me a few quid :)
