Ive been given a pat tester so was wondering what do i need before i can go out and start testing for business.

I was told you dont need to be qualified just competent. Ive got the iee code of pratice book on its way. Is this all i need to be classed as competent as well and a bit of experience? Do i need to register or anything?

Cheers

No registration needed. Maybe an adjustment to your insurance.

You should really just consider your competence..
you saying
you dont need to be qualified just competent
is incorrect.

Getting "qualified" is a method of proving your technical knowledge and understanding of the PAT environment. It goes in hand with relevant practical skill, and the combination of the two is what makes you competent.

As mentioned on other threads, its a game of chance so if you are competent then yes you can PAT test but also a scope of the item that require testing needs to known as fixed equipment is now covered and your ignorance could in the worst case senerio end you in court, also to note that if someone receives or is hurt/killed by an item you recently tested then its up to you to prove in a court of law of your competence; kinda hard when you can't show any relevent cert's.
