HI All,
Looking for advise on what PATester to get, mainly testing old metal desk lights, old stage lighting etc. Don't want to spend big bucks on it. Best deal I can see is the Kewtech KT35 kit for about ÂŁ225. Do you think this is any good?

In the in service inspection and testing codes of practice 15.4 states "one of the following two tests should be carried out" - Hard Test or Soft Test. I read it that either can be used but is it a case that the Hard test should be carried out unless it may cause damage, then the soft test can be used, ie 15.4 notes 1. Or can either test be used. Asking this because I'm not sure a hard test can be carried out using the Kewtech KT35.

I have the KT61,KT35 & the PAT adapter for ÂŁ40 its ideal and cheap easy to use etc ! didnt know they did the PAT adapter at first as i only got the KT35 as my KT61 didnt have the 250v,1000v IR test options and 250v helps before you do the 500v as this will help tell you if you have forgot to unplug something as well as SELV/PELV etc although can link L/N and test with cpc ! then while buying it saw the PAT adapter so at that cost wasnt an option not to buy.
Regards
Kung.

Bought the Kewtech pat adapter 1 for ÂŁ25 from my local wholesaler, leads from my megger 1552 fit in so is a great buy adapting my MFT to a PAT. Better than buying a complete PAT for ÂŁ225 +.

Your MFT can only do soft continuity tests unlike a PAT tester that can output 25A.
So remember to flex the cord at the plug, and at the entry point into the equipment while testing earth continuity.
Any fluctuation in reading will suggest a frayed earth conductor ;)
