Hi,

In the office we currently have a SmartPAT5000. It used to have additionally programmed auto tests for different lengths of 110v leads, but these have been deleted from it's memory.

I've think I've worked out how to program additional tests again (we have no manual) and I'm just wondering what tests are required for different lengths of 110v lead? As in lengths of less than 25m, 25m to 50m and 50 and above.

If anybody has any experience with this PAT Tester, any additional information/instructions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

I have the same PAT tester, when 110V testing, I'm sure you have to have the tester plugged into a 110V source. I'm not 100% sure, this may only be the case if you need to perform a run test on an 110V appliance.

With the cable lengths. Basically on an earth continuity test the resistance cannot exceed (0.1 + R) ohm where R is the resistance of the protective conductor. So you'd have to set up your test program to accept higher Earth Continuity resuts for the longer cables.

We used to test 110v leads with an attachment to a IEC lead and then to the PAT tester. So am right to assume we should program it as an IEC lead test, instead of an appliance test?

There's a sticker on the PAT tester and it says;

<25m 0.3 Ohms
Upto 50m 0.5 Ohms

This might be for Insulation resistance. Edit: My mistake this is for EC

Any ideas what pass level a 110v lead should have for Earth continuity test?

Edit: Just checked the PAT Tester and I think those figures above above could relate to to EC test. If that's the case, any ideas what IR pass level should be?

Personally it would annoy me having to use adaptors all the time. Can't you buy a proper UK one?
