Hi (again)

I asked a similar question but didnt really get the answer i needed.

I understand that applicances <50V AC dont need testing.
Does this mean the output?

If an AC/DC adapter for a portable office telephone says the following:

INPUT: 230VAC ~ 50Hz 60mA
OUTPUT: 6VDC 6oomA 3.6VA

how do i work out if the output is less than 50V AC if the output is shown in DC?

Thank you

below 50 Volts is extra low voltage, so it does not need PAT testing, just a visual check in the case of a plug adapter/charger e.g phone charger etc.....or a PAT test on the lead/cable on a Laptop charger but only a visual on the charger box/pack...

below 50volts ac though isnt it? the adapters show the output as dc, so how do i know if it output shown is less than 50v ac?

thanks

If it's got 230v going in, it needs testing.
The question is - what tests would be of any use?
Obviously if it's class 2 you can't do an earth bond test, so consider how beneficial an IR test would be, eg are there any metallic parts on the casing?
There's no reason why you can't do "an all-senses-except-taste inspection" including checking the wiring in the plug if appropriate.
