Hi quick question what is the best Pat testing qualification that I should go for EAL level 3/City & Guilds level 3 or will some other random course do I am already a Napit member and they say that they only recognise EAL level 3/City & Guilds level 3 but do I need to register with them for pat testing or for issuing certificates Thanks.

The City and Guilds 2377-12 is the standard course for demonstrating capability to undertake PAT testing. Not sure what that equates to for EAL.
You do not need to register with anyone to undertake in service inspection and testing of electrical equipment and issue the appropriate certification and reports.
However you must be competent at what you do.

Thanks for that very helpful but why is it that napit on their renewal form it costs 240.00 for pat testing so what is that for is it some kind of rip-off

Some companies want you to be registered with someone official to do PAT testing even though there is no requirement to be registered, so the schemes provide this service (for a fee).
Unless you are desperate to do PAT testing for such a company do not bother, just be competent at what you do.

Check your local college out as it cost me £190 for a 6 week night course could have done a one day but this was a C&G course and I did it because of the urban myths spread by the PAT companies saying you are not qualified if you dont have it and the letting agent(s) bit to this. Only good thing is I sent a copy of my C&G for their records so they asked the same of the PAT companies and had probs because some had to get their guys "updated"

Got an employee on 2377 in August and it was £250, 2 days. I have booked an Accessory Changing course for me but Electricians of course do not need that.

Cost me £330 a year ago at a local college, G&G 2377 2 day course - total rip-off, but had to to it in order to satisfy my customers insurance - (who are fast becoming the new scam scheme).
