Hi

Im due to finish my apprentiship this year and looking at buying a PAT tester so I can do some testing in my spare time. I know its pretty boring but pays well :D

Do you need to attend a PAT testing course to be able to do this?

Can anyone recommend a reasonable priced decent tester?

Can you just design some record sheets/certificate yourself or do you need to be a member of organistation?

Thanks

Hi

Do you need to attend a PAT testing course to be able to do this? No just "competant" but what if your competancy gets called into question, so IMO yes. Also some larger companies will insist on it.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable priced decent tester? Fluke, Seaward, Megger.

Can you just design some record sheets/certificate yourself or do you need to be a member of organistation? No need to be a member of anything so design away.

Thanks

The 2377 is very simple so if you're serious about doing PA testing then do the course.

Might not pay as well as you think. The "Sticker Mob" are out there charging pennies to stick labels on things without a single test.

No. Anyone who knows how to do the tests can do it.

Here's a couple of online shops I've used

isswww

PAT Testers & Portable Appliance Testing equipment - PAT Tester Equipment - Test Meters and Electrical Test Equipment Supplier - Test and Measuring Meters

Just use the IET model forms

Thanks

Personally it would annoy me having to use adaptors all the time. Can't you buy a proper UK one?
