Hi All

Been asked to do some work at the local pub, they require some PAT testing + emergency lighting adding to an existing circuit. I am an electrician by trade (C+G 2330 L3) but work mainly in instrumentation nowadays. I am 17[SUP]th[/SUP] edition trained and hold a C+G 2377 PAT testing cert. Unsure of the legality of doing this work, offering my services for free to save the pub money, I have PI insurance and calibrated test equipment and believe doing the PAT testing wont be a problem but I am unsure about the emergency lighting, do you need part P for this? I don’t have that, I was just going to install the lights for them and get someone in to test them for them since I don’t have C+G 2391. Please advise, thanks.

There has been many threads about Part P on this site in the past which should answer you question.

Emergency lighting is covered by BS 5266

i see no problem with you doing this work. you are qualified and competent to do the pat testing . as long as you are competent to install the EMs, go for it. ( EMs are usually fed from the local lighting circuit , with a keyswitch fitted to interrupt the perm. feed for testing.)

edit. part p is only relevant if the pub has living accomodation fed from the same meter. you don't need 2391 either for the EMs or for pat testing.

if you're doing the install for free i don't believe you will be under electricity at work act 1989 anyway, but probably should look at it, to do pat testing i thought you just had to be competent.

He's installing it in a place of work, EAWR 1989 and HASAWA 1974 still apply.
