hello
i have done numerous searches on pat testing and what i am getting is that pat testing is there to protect employees and the public who come into contact with your equipment. have i read that right?
if i have understood pat testing correctly... i'm about to start a mobile beauty bus. (no employees) when i do a spray tan on a client the machine/gun i use wouldn't need to be tested as although it is used on the client it isn't actually touching them is that right? any help to clarify stuff would be greatly appreciated. is there anything else i should be aware of when it comes to pat testing?

thank you so much. x

PAT testing applies to all portable appliances which rely on mains electricity . i.e. anything with a 13A plug fitted. the purpose is to ensure trhat the appliance is electrically safe to use, both for you and your client/s. what supply do you use for your spray tan appliance?

thank you for replying! i'm glad you've clarified that because what i kept on reading was it's for items that the public use, not what you just said. very helpful so thank you again! the machine i use plugs into the plug socket... i'm not sure of any other details though? x

you confused me when you said you ran a beauty bus. does the bus have a mains supply ( inverter ) or do you plug in at the client's home?

omg not an actual bus! lol a business i just said 'bus.' because i thought people would understand!! ha sorry for confusing you!! everything i do will be in clients homes (or mine if they want to come to me) hope it makes a bit more sense now! i'm still laughing at the thought of me driving a big beauty bus around! x

You can find a local place with drop in PAT testing on Google or a PAT testing company, if you take the things to them so that they dont have to drive out to your site it wont cost you much, maybe 20 or 30 pounds....I would do your testing for free as its probably only a small number of items and youre just starting out in this economic climate, but I'm all the way up in Scotland ...

aww, damn my englishness ;) haha. it is literally 7 items i'd need to get tested. if you know of any places in the merseyside area where they offer drop ins please feel free to recommend (i'd much rather go off a recommendation than just a random google search). some places are quoting £20 some are £45 i understand there would be a minimum charge but you do usually get what you pay for in life obviously we all want a good price especially now a days but i want to make sure i am going to a professional too so any and all recommendations greatly appreciated! x

I have a business part of which involves employing service engineers who service and repair cleaning equipment. We have trained some of them (Via our supplier Megga)to use portable appliance testers on the machines where applicable. A colleague thinks now after 5 years of performing the PAT test on machines that we have repaired, that they may need a formal qualification even though they have been doing this for a number of years. Does anyone know?

I've heard on the Grapevine that the rules are changing very soon.
A 'Competent person' is no longer suitable for PAT Testing and a formal qualification (C&G 2377) must be achieved

wow i cant seem to find a college to do the 2377 went to college they said not enough students to do the college course

so the cowboys will get the 2377, and up their price to 80p/item to sticker it.
