Duuuudes. Bit of a stupid question but something that has never occured to me before. Can you use plastic patresses instead of metal knock-out boxes when putting sockets flush with the wall (i.e. chased into the wall)?? Is there any reason why you shouldn't?

I believe Rocker is thinking more about replacing the standard metal with plastic rather than sinking a surface mounted box ( with all the problems that would make)
and by doing so posing a good question

They were used at one time, probably something to do with beter mechanical strength oreven economics
Personally I dont really know why not

Trouble is a surface box is the same size as the accessory, flushed in it'll look a pigs ear.

Some are slightly bigger depending whos accessories youve got. You havent got 47mm ones have you:D sorry for laughing but i can imagine sinking 10 or 20 of those into engineer brick, that would be a real whizz...........

You would also have to get them perfectly level as they don't have an adjustable lug plus the boxes would deform if the back of the chase wasn't completely flat, which would cause misalignment of the lugs and give you leveling problems as well. I've only seen it done once on a basement flat that had been tanked looked ruff as anything.:)

Nah, I wanted 50, I ended up with 508. They won't have them back because they were on special.

I'm sure I'll use them.... evetually.

Which wholesaler did you get them from, almost as bad a when I ordered some clips from my local, I only wanted a couple of boxes sent out to site, they turned up with 20000 2.5 clips
