hi all ,as recently finding out that you can claim tax relief ON PAYE for laundry cost's can you do the same for tools as over on HRMC website it says you can here HM Revenue & Customs: Tax relief for specialist tools or clothing but this table EIM32712 - Other expenses: flat rate expenses: table of agreed amounts for 2004/05 onwards seems to suggest only laundry is available for electricians on PAYE AS I claim for laundry already can I make a claim for Tool Allowance if so how do I go about this ,thankyou:wink_smile:

In these times i'm lucky to be in a job. I'm looking all the time to work for a bigger company, i've been sending my feelers out for over a yr and nothing! I'm just plodding on week by week. All i wanted to know was can i claim and how far back can you go???

You've got about 5 years to claim I believe if you have never done a self assessment tax return, if it is a small amount then you can just phone them and they'll send you the appropriate forms. It has been a while since I've been employed though so I'm not 100% on this but you obviously already had these tools in your possession but in the course of doing your job they have worn out or broken and so you have had to buy replacements (for which you'll need to keep your receipts).
