Hello

I would like to replace my old light with the pendant light fixture and will need some help as never done any wiring before.

there are few cables coming from the ceiling but joined together and ending with one brown and one blue one (old fitting connected only with these 2 wires) and one green one loose/not joined anywhere.

Is it the same principle in this one - just to connect blue with blue one and brown with brown one and to leave green one as it is?

THANKS

The green is the earth, this must be terminated into the earth terminal on the new fitting. As the fitting is probably not of metal construction, the earth will just be 'parked', but you must not leave it just floating. You should really lose the connector blocks and terminate the wires directly into the new light fitting, you will see there are more than one terminals for live and neutral. The one with the red tape on is the live, the one with the black tape is neutral.

As above!

On the face of it connecting the wires up as you suggest should work if its been working so far but the green wire should be earthed to your new fitting "brass block with the screw" -- the black wire with the red sleeve looks like the live wire from the switch, the two blacks look like the neutral and the green the earth. Ideally they should be connected to the new fitting and not left on connector blocks

Before you do anything though ensure you turn off all the electric to avoid getting a shock -- or if you know how to, just isolate the electric to that lighting circuit.

is that micc by any chance?

Make absolutly certain the power is isolated at the fuseboard. All of the reds currently stuffed up into the ceiling go in the centre terminal block of your new ceiling rose. The black marked red in the block with the brown. The two blacks in with the blue.Greens in the 'parking' earth terminal. Make sure the cable sheath just enters the base of the rose...and carefully strip back conductors so they can be terminated neatly, tightly and effectively.
Take real care to make sure all the earths/blacks/reds are effectively connected....a break in any of those connections can result in loss of earthing or power to the rest of the circuit and a potentially dangerous situation.........
