Hi I done a periodic on a house to be sold. According to present owner it was rewired 15 years or so ago. Only problem is that it has a very old fuseboard at present and the wiring is PVC but stranded. All circuits gave good readings though using existing conduit as an earth. Readings where in the region of 0.28 ohms to 0.47 ohms. Now the question is? A to rewire would be a major job so as reading are ok is it best to leave be?
B do I replace the board for new but incorporate the conduit to give best earth readings possible.
If it was a house they where to carry on living in I would suggest a rewire but its not. Any suggestings??

if the conduit is cpc then you will have to either use it or pull new cpc's in. as long as readings are within limits, just do a board change. note on cert, that cpc is the conduit, but you will have to ensure that it is continuous to each point , and check if any additions have been made, not using conduit, and that the cpc's of those are connected.

If you have confirmed that there is a CPC at every point in the wiring installation Ger 412.2.3.2 then if the IR results are also good then there is no reason to rewire the system

Just a couple of things if it was rewired 15 years ago was it in T+E or singles?
Most earthed conduit domestic installations were done with a flush CU, is that the case here? As the earth continuity was confirmed via bush and coupling.
Are you fitting a metal clad board to pick up the earthing system on the conduits.
Is the system TT

It's Tn-s system, the existing board is flush into the wall and it has been rewired in singles so the difficulty is getting into it to install a new board with minimal damage.

IMO don't touch it. If all readings are good and the installation still complies to the version of the regs that it was installed to. Just note any non compliances to current regs and give a code 4.

I agree with Sintra here leave it alone if the readings are ok , reccomend a DB upgrade and bondings put in place ,if its stranded cable you may well find its more like 40 - 50 years old could be wrong but you have said 15 years it was rewired so about 1996 16th edition then ,but with out seeing the cable ,but very old CDU very rare you'd rewire and not change the CDU

Only problem is that it has a very old fuseboard at present and the wiring is PVC but stranded. All circuits gave good readings though using existing conduit as an earth
Conduit cable 6491x is stranded so where's the problem
