Hi,
I`m a bit confused what on-site guide says regarding stationary equipment connected to a ring or radial circuit.
In appendix 8 (8.2.4) you can find: "In an A1 ring final circuit and an A2 radial circuit a non-fused spur should feed only one single or one twin or multiple socket-outlet or one item of permanently connected equipment.
On the other hand (8.2.5) says: "Permanently connected equipment should be locally protected by a fuse complying with BS 1362.
Can anyone explain whether we need a fuse for stationary equipment or can we connected it through non-fused spur.
Many thanks for your help
Zeb

i would say the reasoning is that a socket is for plugs incorporating a 1362 fuse, fixed equipment should be connected by a FCU so as to provide fuse protection. typical ambiguity of the regs.

Without even looking into appendix 8, you can insert a 20a double switch which will feed a socket to plug your equipment in.

Or you insert a 13a switch spur unit and feed a flex outlet to connect your equipment in.

Zeb,

I think what they are talking about in the Regs, is that ''Each'' spur can only feed one outlet (single or double) or one FCU. ....Not that the ring can only have one spur!!! You can have every point on the ring as an FCU feeding ''fixed equipment' if you wished, so long as all the parameters of that circuit is met, etc, etc!!

That's my interpretation anyway...

totally agree with you that fixed equipment should be connected by a FCU and that`s why I can`t understand why regs say that non-fused spur can feed permanently connected equipment.

Read a post somewhere along the lines where kitchen fitters connected a oven straight into the ring via a double switch.
